A striking early 18th century turned wooden tobacco jar, striking early 18th century turned wooden tobacco jar, finely crafted in alternating bands of contrasting woods, likely including fruitwood, walnut and possibly laburnum or olivewood, creating a bold striped decorative effect. The beautifully stepped domed lid with turned finial and strong sculptural form reflect the craftsmanship of the period, combining practicality with decorative sophistication. Traditionally used for storing tobacco, this rare and characterful piece is an excellent example of early treen, valued for both its rich patina and visually distinctive use of multiple timbers. including fruitwood, walnut and possibly laburnum or olivewood, creating a bold striped decorative effect.
